CEEH Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica

Introduction

This database contains a transcription of the entire corpus of documents referring to the life and oeuvre of Zurbarán until his death in 1664. It completes and corrects the task undertaken by Odile Delenda in 1994, which it constantly updates as new documentary findings on the painter are made.

The Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica thus provides an innovative digital tool that can be freely accessed by anyone interested in Spanish Golden Age art. This project has been conducted under the scientific direction of Elisa d’Ors Lois.

Where they have been checked, revised or completed, this is pointed out.

Where indicated, Elisa d’Ors Lois checked the transcriptions of the documents, correcting misreadings and completing missing text when necessary. Akemi Herráez Vossbrink also checked and corrected the transcriptions of many documents relating to the export activities of the painter’s workshop for the Americas.

Elisa d’Ors Lois, who holds a Law degree from the University of Navarra, studied for a doctorate in Art History at the Complutense University in Madrid and earned a diploma from the School of Art and Antiquities. She joined Fernando Durán as a cataloguer and was subsequently one of the founders of Alcalá Subastas, where she worked until 2016 in the field of old master painting, specialising in Spanish and colonial painting. From 2006 to 2012 she taught Recognition of Old-Master Painting for the master’s course on Art Market and Management of Related Enterprises at the Antonio de Nebrija University.
