2. A facsimile edition and preparatory study of the volumes of Talbotypes
Coordinators: José Manuel Matilla (Madrid) and Hillary Mcartney (Glasgow)
A facsimile edition and preparatory study of the volumes of Talbotypes intended to illustrate Stirling Maxwell’s Annals of the Artists of Spain (1848)
Sir William is known to have had fifty sets of photographs made and bound together. The surviving locatable copies will be studied, and the state of the images they contain surveyed and compared. The edition will reproduce the best-preserved images from the sets which are available for study. A technical analysis of the chemical processes employed, and the problems of degeneration and preservation, will be included in the edition.
Project presentation at the International Congress “The Real Thing?” (University of Glasgow, 6-7 December 2012)
