Emilio José Martínez González studied Theology at the Universidad Pontificia in Salamanca; he gained a degree and PhD in Moral Theology at the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Morales in Madrid. He taught Philosophy of Religion at the San Esteban Faculty of Theology (Salamanca) and Moral Theology at the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Morales, as well as Spiritual Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid. He currently teaches Dogmatic Theology and Spirituality at the Pontifical Theological Faculty Teresianum in Rome.
