Céspedes del Castillo, Guillermo
Guillermo Céspedes del Castillo (1920–2006), who was appointed a member of the Real Academia de la Historia in 1990, was professor of American History at the universities of Seville and California and the Complutense in Madrid. Together with other colleagues, he founded the Escuela de Estudios Hipano-Americanos and focused his research on the Archivo General de Indias. Prominent among his works is América Hispánica (1492–1898) – now a classic – which first came out in 1983 and was republished in 2008.
