Fellowship to study the Museo del Prado’s drawing collections
The CEEH has awarded Ana Hernández Pugh a research grant to study the formation of the Museo Nacional del Prado’s collections of drawings with a view to bringing out a book on the subject as a continuation of CEEH’s publishing work in the field of drawing and the history of collecting. The grant will run for three years, starting in 2023–24, and stems from an agreement with the Fundación de Amigos del Museo del Prado to promote research on the Museum’s holdings.
Hernández Pugh’s research will be conducted as part of the doctoral programme of the Universidad Complutense in Madrid under the guidance of Associate Professor Ángel Aterido. Her advisor at the Museum is José Manuel Matilla, senior curator of drawings, prints and photographs, with whom she previously collaborated on the catalogue raisonné of the drawings of Manuel Salvador Carmona (1734–1820), published in 2023 by the CEEH, the Biblioteca Nacional de España and the Prado, and on the exhibitions The Master of Paper. Drawing Books from the Seventeenth to the Nineteenth Centuries (2019, catalogue published jointly with the CEEH) and From Pencil to Burin. Drawings for Printmaking in Goya’s Day (2023), both at the Prado.
