Manet and Astruc. Friendship and Inspiration, which ended yesterday at the Kunsthalle Bremen, has provided an insight into their shared interests through masterpieces by Manet and surprising paintings, sculptures and watercolours by Astruc, alongside paintings of well-known contemporaries that illustrate the wider artistic context. The exhibition, curated by Dorothee Hansen, has attracted 37,000 visitors since October. The accompanying catalogue –published in English with the support of the CEEH– remains as a reference book that provides a new perspective on the art and aesthetics of the 1860s in Paris thanks to an in-depth exploration of the friendship of these two artists and their creative networks
