Exhibition «Velázquez. Esculturas para el Alcázar»
Collaboration CEEH - Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando 14 December 2007 - 30 March 2008
The sculptures acquired by Velázquez to decorate the Alcázar palace in Madrid during his second trip to Italy (1649-1651) are brought together in an exhibition for the first time.
These sculptures are copies of the finest works of classical antiquity which belonged to the collections of great Italian families such as the Medici, Ludovisi and Borghese and those at the Belvedere of the Vatican amassed by the popes, from Julius II
to Innocent X.
The Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica is contributing to the exhibition by co-publishing the catalogue.
