De Profundis in Ávila’s “III Festival Internacional Tomás Luis de Victoria”
The British male-voice early music ensemble De Profundis has participated in the III Festival Internacional Tomás Luis de Victoria with two recitals conducted by Robert Hollingworth: the first on December 3 at the Real Monasterio de Santo Tomás de Ávila, with music by William Byrd and Cristóbal de Morales; the second on December 5 in the Cathedral of Ávila, with music by Morales and Victoria.
The ensemble founded by Mark Dourish in 2011 has already recorded several CDs of Spanish early music sung entirely by male adult voices, as it was performed in the choirs of continental churches and chapels in the 16th and 17th centuries. During their stay in Ávila De Profundis have presented the first of a series of twelve recordings that will bring together all the Masses and Magnificats of Cristóbal de Morales (1500-1553) conducted by Robert Hollingworth and Eamonn Dougan for Hyperion Records, an ambitious project which receives major support from the CEEH.
