The Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid is showing Zurbarán y sus doce hijos (Zurbarán and His Twelve Sons), a feature-length film directed by Arantxa Aguirre and supported by the CEEH, on November 12, 13, 14, 15, 21 and 22. Focusing on Zurbarán’s series of Jacob and His Twelve Sons – which was exhibited in New York, Dallas and Jerusalem before returning to Auckland Castle, where it has hung for the past 250 years – the director surveys the painter’s life and oeuvre, ending in Durham, where these paintings have inspired a project to transform a whole community.
