3. A catalogue raisonné of Stirling Maxwell’s Spanish drawings
Coordinator: Zahira Véliz (London)
The catalogue will list in all probability 250-300 drawings. There are about 100 in the collection of the Courtauld Institute in London, and some 20 in the Louvre. A copy of one of the key sale catalogues of Stirling Maxwell’s drawings remains untraced at present, and there has been no previous attempt to identify the drawings he possessed.
The project, like that concerned with Stirling’s collection of paintings, should bring to light new information about the development of Stirling’s taste and judgement, which would either be discussed in the introduction to the catalogue, or combined with other similar material elsewhere.
