Wim Blockmans is Professor emeritus of Medieval History at Leiden University and former Rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. He has published extensively on late medieval and early modern state power and is the author of Charles V (2002) and Introduction to Medieval Europe, 300–1500 (2007).
