Demele, Christine
Christine Demele studied Art History, Cultural History and Eastern Slavic Studies in Jena and in Moscow. In 2007 she received the Dr Heinrich Weber Prize for her scientific work on the Italian drawings from Goethe’s graphic collection in Weimar. She then received a doctoral scholarship from the Gerda Henkel Foundation. Her dissertation on Dürer’s Self-Portrait as Nude was awarded the Wolfgang Ratjen Prize of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich for outstanding research in the field of graphic arts. She has published on artistic freehand drawing from the 15th to the 20th century. Between 2013 and 2019 she taught at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen. Since then Demele has been curator of the collection of graphic arts of the 15th to 18th centuries in the Kupferstichkabinett of the Kunsthalle Bremen.
