Glendinning, Nigel
Nigel Glendinning (1929–2013), a great scholar of the Spanish Enlightenment and the work of Francisco de Goya, taught at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and Southampton before permanently taking up a chair at Queen Mary, London. As an expert on Spain and the author of many publications on eighteenth-century Spanish art and literature, he received distinctions and awards from various institutions throughout his long career. In 2005 he received a tribute from the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado and in 2006 an honorary doctorate from Madrid’s Universidad Complutense.
